The Official's Daughter and the Woman Who Touched Jesus' Cloak

Luke 8:40-56, Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43

While Jesus was saying this, a Jewish official came to him, knelt down before him, and said, "My daughter has just died; but come and place your hands on her, and she will live."
So Jesus got up and followed him, and his disciples went along with him.

A woman who had suffered from severe bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If only I touch his cloak, I will get well."
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, "Courage, my daughter! Your faith has made you well."At the very moment the woman became well.

Then Jesus went into the official's  house. When he saw the musicians for the funeral and the people all stirred up, he said. "Get out, everybody! The little girl is not dead-she is only sleeping!"
Then they all started making fun of him. But as soon as the people had been put out, Jesus went into the girl's room and took hold of her hand, and she got up.
The news about this spread all over that part of the country.

Word of Courage - God is with us

Psalms 46: 1-7

God is our shelter and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not be afraid,
even if the earth is shaken
and mountains fall into the ocean depths;
even if the seas roar and rage
and the hills are shaken by the violence.

There is a river that brings joy
to the city of God,
to the sacred house of the Most High.
God is in that city, and it will never be destroyed;
at early dawn he will come to its aid.
Nations are terrified, kingdoms are shaken;
God thunders, and the earth dissolves.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Human Heart

Proverbs 17:3

Gold and silver are tested by fire,
and
a person's heart is tested by the Lord.

Blessed be the Lord God Almighty

Word of courage

Psalms 41:1-3

Happy are those who are
concerned for the poor,
the Lord will help them when
they are in trouble.
The Lord will protect them and
preserve their lives;
he will make them happy in the land;
he will not abandon them to
the power of their enemies.
The Lord will help them when
they are sick
and will restore them to health.

Inappropriate Talk

Sirach 20:18

A slip of the tongue is worse than a slip on the pavement;
the wicked will go to ruin
just as suddenly as a person slips and falls.

Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man

Matthew 9:1-8 , Mark 2:1-12, Luke 5:17-26

Jesus got into the boat and went back across the lake to his own town, where some people brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a bed. When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the paralyzed man, "Courage, my son! Your sins are forgiven."
Then some teachers of the Law said to themselves, "This man is speaking balsphemy!"

Jesus percieved what they were thinking, and so he said, "Why are you thinking such evil things?" Is it easier to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
I will prove to you , then, that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins."
So he said to the paralyzed man, "get up, pick up your bed, and go home!"
The man got up and went home.
When the people saw it, they were afraid, and praised God for giving such authority to man.

Jesus Calms a Storm

Mark 4: 35-41 , Luke 8:22-25, Matthew 8:23-27

One day Jesus got into a boat with his disciples and said to them, "Let us go across to the other side of the lake." So they started out.
As they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep.

Suddenly a strong wind blew down on the lake, and the boat began to fill with water, so that they were all in great danger. The disciples went to Jesus and woke him up, saying "Master, Master! We are about to die!"
Jesus got up and gave an order to the wind and to the stormy water; they quieted down, and there was a great calm. Then he said to the disciples, "Where is your faith?"
But they were amazed and afraid, and said to one another, "Who is this man? He gives orders to the winds and waves, and they obey him!"

A Hymn of Praise

Psalms 100:1-5

Sing to the Lord, all the world!
Worship the Lord with Joy;
come before him with happy songs!
Acknowledge that the Lord is God.
He made us, and we belong to him;
we are his people, we are his flock.
Enter the Temple gates with thanksgiving;
go into its courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise him.

The Lord is good;
his love is eternal
and his faithfulness lasts
forever.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

O soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Saviour,
And life more abundant and free:

[Chorus:]
Turn you eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Come to Me and Rest

Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus said,
 "Come to me,
 all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke and put it on you,
and learn from me,
because I am gentle and humble in spirit;
and you will find rest.
For the yoke I will give you is easy,
and the load I will put on you is light."

Trouble

Shared on 02Jan88 prayer meeting.

Many times when we are in trouble, the first thing cross our mind is asking our family members, relatives or friends to help. We tend to forget to pray to God first.

Job 9:9-10
When men are oppressed, they groan;
they cry for someone to save them.
But they don't turn to God,
their Creator,
who gives them hope in their darkest hours.

Betraying Secrets

Sirach 27:16-21
If you repeat secrets that have been told to you,
you are destroying the confidence others have in you,
and you will never have a close friend.
Respect your friends, and keep faith with them.
If you do betray a friend's confidence,
you may as well forget you have a friend.

You have killed that friendship just as surely as if
you had taken a weapon and killed an enemy.
Your friend is gone. You can no more get him back
than you can get a bird to come back to your hand once you let it go.
Don't bother going after him. It's too late.
He is gone, like a dear escaped from a trap.

Wounds can be bandaged an insults can be forgiven,
 but if you betray a confidence,
 it is hopeless.

Jesus Heals Many People

Luke 4:38-41, Matthew :14-17 , Mark 1:29-34

Jesus left the synagogue and went to Simon's home. Simon's mother-in-law was sick with a high fever, and they spoke to Jesus about her. He went and stood at her bedside and ordered the fever to leave her. The fever left her, and she got up at once and began to wait on them.
After sunset all who had friends who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus; he placed his hands on every one of them and healed them all. Demons also went out from many people, screaming, "You are the Son of God!"
Jesus gave the demons an order and would not let them speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.

Judging Others

Matthew 7:1-5 , Luke6:37-38, 41-42

"Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you, for God will judge you in the same way you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rules you apply to others.

Why, then, do you look at the speck in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye? How dare you say to your brother, 'Please let me take that speck out of your eye,' when you have a log in your own eye?
You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will be able to see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye"

How Great Thou Art

Then sings my soul
My Saviour, God, to Thee
How great thou Art
How great thou Art

Jesus Heals a Roman Officer's Servant

A man with authority humbly asked Jesus to heal his servant and has great faith in  him.

Luke 7:1-10, Matthew 8:5-13

When Jesus entered Capernaum, a Roman officer met him and begged for help:
"Sir, my servant is sick in bed at home, unable to move and suffering terribly."
"I will go and make him well," Jesus said.

"Oh no, sir, answered the officer. "I do not deserve to have you come into my house. Just give the order, and my servant will get well.  I, too, am a man under the authority of superior officers, and I have soldiers under me. I order this one 'Go!' and he goes;  and I order that one 'Come!' and he comes; and I order my salve, 'Do this!' and he does it."
When Jesus heard this, he was surprised and said to the people following him, "I tell you, I have never found anyone in Israel with faith like this. I assure you that many will come from the east and the west and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of heaven. But those who should be in the Kingdom will be thrown out into the darkness, where they will cry and gnash their teeth.
Then Jesus said to the officer, "Go home, and what you believe will be done for you."
And the officer's servant was healed that very moment.

Faith

Hebrews 11:1

To have faith
is to be sure of the things we hope for,
to be certain of the things we cannot see.

Jesus Heals a Man with dreaded skin disease

Luke 5:12-16, Matthew 8:1-4, Mark 1:40-45
Once Jesus was in a town where there was a man who was suffering from a dreaded skin disease.
When he saw Jesus, he threw himself down and begged him, "Sir, if you want to, you can  make me clean!"
Jesus reached out and touched him. "I do want to." he answered. "Be clean!"
At once the disease left the man.
Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go straight to the priest and let him examine you; then to prove to everyone that you are cured, offer the sacrifice as Moses ordered."
But the news about Jesus spread all the more widely, and crowds of people came to hear him and be healed from their diseases. But he would go away to lonely places, where he prayed.

Humility and Hospitality

Luke 14:8-11
Jesus noticed how some of the guests were choosing the best places, so he told this parable to all of them.

"When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place. It could happen that someone more important than you has been invited, and your host, who invited both of you , would have to come and say to you, "Let him have this place."
Then you would be embarrassed and have to sit in the lowest place.

Instead, when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that your host will come to you and say, 'Come on up, my friend, to a better place.'
This will bring you honor in the presence of all the other guests.

For everyone who makes himself great will be humbled, and everyone who humbles himself will be made great."

All Over The World

The Man with a Paralyzed Hand

Luke 6:6-11, Matthew 12:9-14, Mark 3:1-6

Jesus left that place and went to a synagogue, where there was a man who had a paralyzed hand. Some people were there who wanted to accuse Jesus of doing wrong, so they asked him, "Is it against our Law to heal on the Sabbath?"
Jesus answered, "What if one of you has a sheep and it falls into a deep hole on the Sabbath? Will he not take hold of it and lift it out?" And a man is worth much more than a sheep! So then our Law does allow us to help someone on  the Sabbath."
Then he said to the man with the paralyzed hand, "Stretch out your hand."
He stretched it out, and it became well again, just like the other one.

Knowledge

Proverbs 12:1

Anyone who loves knowledge wants to be told
when he is wrong.
It is stupid to hate being corrected.

Wise son

Proverbs 13:1

A wise son pays attention when his father corrects him,
but an arrogant person never admits he is wrong.

All to Jesus I Surrender

Jesus Heals the Sick in Gennesaret

Mark 6:53-56, Matthew 14:34-36

They crossed the lake and came to land at Gennesaret, where the people recognized Jesus.
So they sent for the sick people in all the surrounding country and brought them to Jesus.
They begged him to let the sick at least touch the edge of his cloak; and all who touched it were made well.

Wisdom

Proverbs 16:22

Wisdom is
 a fountain of life to the wise,
but
trying to educate stupid people is
a waste of time.

Humility and Judgment

Sirach 3:24

Many people have been misled by their own opinions,
their wrong ideas have warped their judgment.

Jesus Heals a Deaf-mute

Mark 7:31-37

Jesus then left the neighborhood of Tyre and went on through Sidon to Lake Galilee, going by the way of the territory of the Ten Towns.
Some people brought him a man who was deaf and could hardly speak, and they begged Jesus to place his hands on him. So Jesus took him off alone, away from the crowd, put his fingers in the man's ears, spat, and touched the man's tongue. Then Jesus looked up to heaven, gave a deep groan, and said to the man "Ephphatha," which means, "Open up!"
At once the man was able to hear, his speech impediment was removed, and he began to talk without any trouble.
Then Jesus ordered the people not to speak of it to anyone; but the more he ordered them, not to the more they told it.
And all who heard were completely amazed, "How well he does everything!" they exclaimed.
"He even causes the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak!"

Blessing and Wealth

Proverbs 10:22

It is the LORD's blessing that makes you wealthy.
Hard work can make you no richer.

Jesus Heals Two Blind Man

Matthew 9:27-31
Jesus left that place, and as he walked along, two blind men started following him.
"Have mercy on us, Son of David!" they shouted.
When Jesus had gone indoors, the two blind men came to him and he asked them, "Do you believe that I can heal you?"
"Yes, sir!" they answered.
Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, "Let it happen, then, just as you believe!" and their sight was restored.
Jesus spoke sternly to them, "Don't tell this to anyone!"
But they left and spread the news about Jesus all over that part of the country.

Because He Lives

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

God Loves

John 3:16

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may not die
but have eternal life.

Right Word Right Occasion

Proverbs 15:23

What a joy it is
to find just the right word
for the right occasion!

Human Heart

Jeremiah 17:9-10

"Who can understand the human heart?
There is nothing else so deceitful;
it is too sick to be healed.
I, the LORD, search the minds
and test the hearts of men.
I treat each one according to
the way he lives,
according to what he does."

Hosanna

I see the king of glory
Coming on the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes
The whole earth shakes

Yeeeah

I see his love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing
The people sing

[Chorus]
Hosanna
Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest [x2]

A Woman's Faith

Mark 7:24-30, Matthew 15:21-28
Then Jesus left and went away to the territory near the city of Tyre. He went into a house and did not want anyone to know he was there, but he could not stay hidden.
A woman, whose daughter had an evil spirit in her, heard about Jesus and came to him at once and fell at his feet. The woman was a Gentile, born in the region of Phoenicia in Syria. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. But Jesus answereed, "Let us first feed the children. It isn't right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs".
"Sir," she answered, "even the dogs under the table eat the children's leftovers!".
So Jesus said to her, "Because of that answer, go back home, where you will find that the demon has gone out of your daughter!"
She went home and found her child lying on the bed; the demon had indeed gone out of her.

Cheerfulness and Sadness

Sirach 30:21-24
Don't deliberately torture yourself by giving in to depression.
Happiness makes for a long life and makes it worth living.
Enjoy yourself and be happy;
don't worry all the time.

Worry never did anybody any good,
and it has destroyed many people.
It will make you old before your time.
Jealousy and anger will shorten your life.

Friendships with Other Men

Sirach 9:10
Never abandon an old friend;
you will never find a new one who can take his place.
Friendship is like wine;
it gets better as it grows older.

Parents and Children

Proverbs 10:1
A wise son makes his father proud of him;
a foolish one brings his mother grief.

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

John 9: 9-41
As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been born blind.
His disciples asked him, "Teacher, whose sin caused him to be born blind: Was it his own or his parents' sin?"

Jesus answered, "His blindness has nothing to do with his sins or his parents' sins. He is blind so that God's power might be seen at work in him.

As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light for the world."

After he said this, Jesus spat on the ground and made some mud with the spittle; he rubbed the mud on the man's eyes and told him "Go and wash your face in the pool of Siloam."

So the man went, washed his face, and came back seeing.

Words spoken

Proverbs 12:18

Thoughtless words can wound as deeply as any sword,
but wisely spoken words can heal.

Amazing Grace

Absolutely beautiful, a special gift from God.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Argument

Proverbs 26:21

Charcoal keeps the embers glowing,
wood keeps the fire burning,
and troublemakers keep arguments alive.

Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida

Mark 8:22-26
They came to Bethsaida, where some people brought a blind man to Jesus and begged him to touch him.
Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village.
After spitting on the man's eyes, Jesus placed his hands on him and asked him, "Can you see anything?"
The man looked up and said, "Yes, I can see people, but they look like trees walking around."
Jesus again placed his hands on the man's eyes. This time the man looked intently, his eyesight returned, and he saw everything clearly.
Jesus then sent him home with the order, "Don't go back into the village."

Our God Reigns

How lovely on the mountains are the feet of Him
Who brings good news, good news;
Announcing peace, proclaiming news of happiness:
Our God reigns, our God reigns!

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

Mark 10: 46-52, Matthew 20:29-34, Luke 18:35-43
They came to Jericho, and as Jesus was leaving with his disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting by the road. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!"
Many of the people scolded him and told him to be quiet. But he shouted even more loudly, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
Jesus stopped and said, "Call him."
So they called the blind man, "Cheer up!" they said, "Get up, he is calling you."
So he threw off his cloak, jumped up, and came to Jesus.
"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him.
"Teacher," the blind man answered, "I want to see again."
"Go," Jesus told him, "your faith has made you well."
At once he was able to see and followed Jesus on the road.

Gain Favor of Important People

Proverbs 19:6

Everyone tries to gain the favor of important people;
Everyone claims the friendship of those who give out favors.

Loans and Repayment

Indeed, many times we lend end up chasing after "payment" as borrowers tend to give all sort of excuses when come to repayment. Yes, count ourselves lucky if we can get back some.  No wonder many people refuse to lend at all.

Sirach 29: 1-7
Be kind enough to lend to your neighbor when  he needs help. Your are keeping the Lord's commands if you help him. If he needs something, lend it to him.
And when you are in debt, pay it back as soon as you can. If you meet your obligations, you will always be able to borrow what you need.
Many people treat a loan as something they found and can keep, causing embarrassment to those who helped them. Some people will speak politely, bow and scrape until they get the loan they want, but when the time comes to pay it back, they'll put if off, say that it's inconvenient, and make a lot of worthless excuses. If the lender insists on being paid, he can count himself lucky to get back half. If he doesn't insist, the borrower has robbed him and made an unnecessary enemy. All the lender will get from him are curses, insults and disrespect, but never any gratitude.
Many people refuse to lend at all, not because they are stingy, but because they don't want to be cheated if they can avoid it.

Jesus Heals a Dumb Man

Matthew 9:32-33
As the men were leaving, some people brought to Jesus a man who could not talk because he had a demon.
But as soon as the demon was driven out, the man started talking, and everyone was amazed.
"We have never seen anything like this in Israel!" they exclaimed.

Worry about Money and Business

I ever think why should I do those sales that keep me worry about their repayment?
I may as well drop these accounts and be able to eat and sleep well.

Sirach 31: 1-2
Worrying about money will make you lose weight and lose sleep.
Worrying about business will keep you from sleeping
just as surely as a serious illness does.

O, How I Love Jesus

Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath

Luke 13:10-13

One Sabbath Jesus was teaching in a synagogue. A woman there had an evil spirit that had kept her sick for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not straighten up at all.
When Jesus saw her, he called out to her, "Woman, you are free from your sickness!".
He placed his hands on her, and at once she straightened herself up and praised God.

Don't make rash promises

Ecclesiastes 5:5-6
Better not to promise at all
than to make a promise and not keep it.
Don't let your own words lead you into sin,
so that you have to tell God's priest that you didn't mean it.

Standing On The Promises

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

[Refrain:]
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit's call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.
[Refrain]

Evil people and Liars

Proverbs 17: 4
Evil people listen to evil ideas,
and
Liars listen to lies.

Don't Be Presumptuous

Sirach 5:1-2
Don't rely on money to make you independent.
Don't think you have to have everything you want,
and then spend your energy trying to get it.

God and Possessions

Luke 16:13,   Matthew 6:24

No one can be a slave of two masters;
he will hate one and love the other;
he will be loyal to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and Money.

Problems caused by Money

Yes, to be able to sleep well is far more important than
lying in bed awake worry about making more money.

Ecclesiastes 5: 10-12
If you love money,
you will never be satisfied,
if you long to be rich,
you will never get all you want.
It is useless.
The richer you are,
the more mouths you have to feed.
All you gain is the knowledge that you are rich.
A working man may or may not have enough to eat,
but at least he can get a good night's sleep.
A rich man,
however,
has so much that he stays awake worrying.

Humility and Self-respect

Sirach 10: 31
If someone is honored while he is poor,
think how much he will be honored if he becomes rich!
If someone is despised while he is rich,
think how much more he will be despised if he becomes poor!

Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient and kind:
it is not jealous or conceited or proud.
Love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable:
Love does not keep a record of wrongs;
Love is not happy with evil,
but is happy with the truth.
Love never gives up;
and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.
Love is eternal.

False Friends

Sirach 37:1-6

Anyone can claim to be your friend,
but some people are friends in name only.
 The grief caused when a close friendship turns sour is as bad as death.

This evil impulse we have! Why was it ever formed?
How did it manage to cover the earth with deceit?

Some people will be your friend as long as things are going well,
but they will turn against you when trouble comes.
A real friend will help you against your enemies and protect you in the fight.
Never forget such a companion in battle,
share the results of your victory with him.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus - Alan Jackson

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Be careful in choosing friends

Sirach 12:8-9

When things are going well,
it is hard to tell who your real friends are,
but in hard times you can recognize your enemies;
 even your friends will leave you then.
But when you are successful,
your enemies will act like friends.

Plan

Proverbs 16:1
We may make our plans,
but God has the last word.

Proverbs 16:3
Ask the Lord to bless your plans,
and you will be successful in carrying them out.

Proverbs 16:9
You may make your plans,
but God directs your actions.

Proverbs 19:21
People may plan all kinds of things,
but the LORD's will is going to be done.

Give Thanks With A Grateful Heart

GIVE THANKS
WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
GIVE THANKS

GIVE THANKS
FOR HE'S GIVEN
JESUS CHRIST, HIS SON

Christian Giving

I shared this during a prayer meeting on 02Dec88.
As usual it's  Sunday Mass offering session and everybody started digging deep in their purses. When I looked into my purse, what I had were one RM50 and a few RM1 notes. Moment of hesitation which to pick.
Do you ever come across this scenario too? What is your choice? Take RM50 or RM1 note?
How about if you only have one RM50?
When I went home reading the Holy Bible, the message I read were as written below:-

2Corinthians 8:12
If you are eager to give,
God will accept your gift on the basis of what you have to give,
not on what you don't have.

2Corinthians 9:6-9
Remember that the person
who plants few seeds will have a small crop,
the one who plants many seeds will have a large crop.

Each one should give, then, as he has decided,
not with regret or out of a sense of duty;
for God loves the one who give gladly.
And God is able to give you more than you need,
so that you will always have all you need for yourselves
and more than enough for every good cause.

As the scripture says,
"He gives generously to the needy; his kindness lasts forever."
